Orthodontic Options Offered by Fort Bend Dental

Patients in Missouri City, Richmond, Rosenberg, Aliana, Sugar Land, TX, and nearby areas who are interested in orthodontics can choose from fixed or removable appliances at Fort Bend Dental. Together, you and your dentist will develop a personalized plan to fit your needs. In most cases, there is no need for you or your family to be referred to an orthodontist. Options include:

Traditional Braces

Traditional Braces

Braces are an excellent way to treat almost any orthodontic issue including overbites, underbites, gaps, and crooked teeth. They consist of metal brackets attached to the front surfaces of your teeth. The brackets are connected by a wire that applies gentle tension in order to straighten teeth over time. Our practice prefers Edgewise brackets, which are a more comfortable and less visible version of old-fashioned, bulky metal braces.

Traditional Braces

Invisalign®

This popular system discreetly straightens a patient’s teeth using a prescribed number of clear, customized, nearly invisible plastic aligners. Unlike fixed traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed when you eat, brush and floss your teeth, and perform certain physical activities. If the treatment plan is followed, Invisalign is an effective means of treating cases of mild to moderate dental misalignment. Patients must commit to wearing the aligners from 20 to 22 hours a day. Treatment can be completed in as little as six months or more than a year, depending on your case.

Invisalign®
SureSmile®

SureSmile®

These clear aligners also straighten teeth discreetly with removable plastic aligners. A patented software is used to create the SureSmile treatment plan. Each aligner is crafted from Essix ACE® Plastic, a leader in the dental plastics industry. Your Fort Bend Dental professional can discuss the differences between SureSmile and Invisalign during your consultation. Treatment time is about the same time as Invisalign.

SureSmile®

Hybrid Treatment

For complex misalignment cases, our dentists offer a combination of clear aligner therapy and Edgewise braces. Once clear aligners have shifted a patient’s teeth sufficiently, braces are applied to finish treatment in a shorter amount of time. And the best part is it can all be done here so you don’t have to make appointments with an orthodontist.

The Orthodontics Treatment Timeline

Orthodontics is not a quick fix. It can take a year or longer, depending on the patient and the orthodontic treatment method. Our dentists can start a patient’s orthodontic treatment around the age of 12 to 13, after adult teeth have fully erupted. However, many people forgo orthodontic therapy until adulthood. In general, you can expect that your plan will involve:

Fort Bend Dental offers affordable monthly financing through CareCredit®, and our own money-saving membership payment plan.

Treatment Planning

Your dentist will first take precise digital x-rays of your bite in the office. Based on these images, he will then explain your treatment options and answer your questions. We can provide you with an estimate and discuss payment options at this time.

Begin Treatment

Once you and your dentist have determined the best solution, he will either coordinate the placement of your braces or provide you with customized Invisalign or SureSmile trays. The number of trays is based on your needs.

Checkups

Over time, teeth will come into alignment with the aid of your fixed or removable orthodontic devices. With proper maintenance and periodic dental check-ups at the office, your dentist can make sure your treatment is progressing smoothly.

Maintenance

In order for you to maintain the new positions of your teeth after you complete treatment, retainers must be worn overnight on an ongoing basis. In many cases, Invisalign patients can simply continue to wear their final aligner as a retainer.

Are you worried about discomfort? You're not alone.

nearly 60% of people suffer from some form of dental anxiety

If you stress about the sensitivity of your teeth, it may reassure you to know that 60% of patients experience dental anxiety, according to the Dental Research Journal. That worry may result from fear of judgment or fear of pain.

Braces vs. Clear Aligners: Which Is More Comfortable?

Though anxiety can stand as a significant obstacle, our dentists in Missouri City, Richmond, Rosenberg, Aliana and Sugar Land, TX, will listen to your questions and needs. After all, you deserve a stunning smile — and we can make your far-off dream into a dazzling reality.

While no orthodontic treatment designed to straighten your teeth will be completely pain-free, you can choose an option that results in lower rates of discomfort. Here’s how braces and clear aligners compare.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces work effectively to straighten your teeth. Braces offer a more affordable option, but they also are more conspicuous than clear aligners. Plus, they tend to cause more discomfort than Invisalign or SureSmile.

Clear Aligners

If you want to straighten your teeth subtly, clear aligners like Invisalign and SureSmile will suit your needs. And they come with another added benefit: decreased discomfort. Compared to traditional braces, they provide the best choice for those with sensitive teeth.

Costs and Financing

The total costs of orthodontic treatment vary with the type you choose, so keep that in mind when weighing your options.

For instance, in the case of clear aligners, the number of trays you will need to achieve your final results will impact the final price.

On average, the cost of treatment is between $4,000-$5,500 and is usually covered at least partially by insurance. Because we do not need to refer you to outside orthodontists, our dentists can also save you money that you would have spent scheduling an additional orthodontics appointment.

Pricing can be discussed during your consultation, so you can find the best option for your goals, timeline, and finances.

If any out-of-pocket costs arise, Fort Bend Dental offers affordable monthly financing through CareCredit®, and our own money-saving membership payment plan.
