Your Options

Patients in need of orthodontics can choose from fixed or removable appliances at Fort Bend Dental. You and your dentist can develop a personalized plan to fit your needs:
Traditional Braces

Braces are an excellent way to treat almost any orthodontic issue including overbites, underbites, gaps, and crooked teeth. They consist of metal brackets attached to the front surfaces of your teeth. The brackets are connected by a wire that applies tension in order to straighten teeth over time.

This popular system straightens a patient's teeth using a set of clear aligners. Unlike braces, they can be removed while you eat, brush your teeth, and perform certain physical activities. Invisalign is an effective means of treating cases of mild to moderate dental misalignment.

The Orthodontics Treatment Timeline

Orthodontics is not a quick fix. It can take a year or longer, depending on the patient and the orthodontic treatment method. We can start orthodontic treatment around the age of 12 to 13 after adult teeth have fully erupted. However, many people forgo orthodontic therapy until adulthood. In general, you can expect that your plan will involve:
1. Treatment Planning

Your dentist will first take x-rays of your bite in the office. Based on these images, he will then explain your treatment options and answer your questions.

2. Providing Appliances

Once you and your dentist have determined the best solution, he will either coordinate placement of your braces or provide your Invisalign trays.

3. Checkups

Over time, teeth will come into alignment with the aid of your fixed or removable orthodontic devices. With proper maintenance and periodic dental check-ups at the office, your dentist can make sure your treatment is progressing the right way.

4. Maintenance

In order for you to maintain the new positions of your teeth after having completed treatment, retainers must be worn overnight on an ongoing basis. In many cases, Invisalign patients can simply continue to wear their final aligner as a retainer.
