Why should you choose Invisalign over braces to straighten your smile?

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign works much like traditional orthodontic treatment, but without metal wires and brackets. Like braces, Invisalign aligners apply gentle pressure to teeth. Each aligner tray has a slightly different shape than the one that precedes it, so they gradually reposition your teeth over the course of a year or more.

Is Invisalign Popular?

Conditions Addressed by Invisalign

Invisalign can correct many of the same orthodontic problems as braces. Here are a few of the conditions our dentists treat with Invisalign at our Missouri City and Richmond practice:
crossbite

Crossbite

One arch is shifted too close to the tongue or cheek.

gapped teeth

Gapped Teeth

There are noticeable spaces between the teeth.

open bite

Open Bite

The upper and lower arches do not make complete contact.

crowded teeth

Overcrowding

Teeth are too close together, overlapping in many areas.

While Invisalign can address any one of these conditions, it can also correct multiple issues at once to improve your bite and enhance your smile. Your orthodontic plan will be completely customized to eventually give you a smile that is not only more attractive, but also easier to maintain.

Why Address Dental Misalignment?

This video explains how overbites, underbites, gapped teeth, or overly crowded teeth can negatively affect your comfort and your health.

Do you qualify for Invisalign aligners?

Candidacy Factors

Moderate Misalignment

Invisalign works best for mild to moderate cases. If you suffer from severe malocclusion (misalignment of the teeth), you may require traditional braces.

Responsibility

For best results, patients must wear Invisalign aligners for at least 22 hours a day. They must also follow recommended guidelines and take care not to lose the aligner trays.

Discretion Is a Priority

Many teens and adults choose Invisalign because it is virtually invisible. Your friends and family will not be able to tell that you are wearing an orthodontic appliance.

About the Process
A Treatment Timeline

As with all of our restorative, cosmetic, and preventive dental procedures, the Invisalign process begins with an initial consultation. At your first appointment, we will evaluate your oral health, discuss your treatment options in detail, and explain how the Invisalign process works. Here are the general steps that patients can expect when they choose our Missouri City and Richmond practice for Invisalign:

Standard Invisalign treatment can straighten your smile in as little as 12 to 14 months.
Standard Invisalign treatment can straighten your smile in as little as 12 to 14 months.

Digital Impressions

If you decide that clear aligner therapy is for you, we will take digital impressions of your smile. Our handheld wand captures thousands of images of your teeth and pieces them together to create a digital model of your bite. This model will be used to create your custom Invisalign appliances.

Fabrication of Aligners

We will send your scans to our partner dental lab. There, a trained technician will create your new aligner trays according to our dentists' specifications. Each tray will be designed to move the teeth a little further into their desired positions.

Active Treatment

During treatment, you will be required to wear your appliances a minimum of 22 hours per day. You can remove them when you are eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing, or flossing. Every two weeks, you will replace your aligners with the next set in the series until your desired results are achieved.

Maintaining Your Results

At the conclusion of your treatment, your teeth will be straight and uniform. Retention is necessary to keep the teeth from shifting back into their original positions. At Fort Bend Dental, we provide every Invisalign patient with a Vivera® retainer.
