Woman with a perfect smile.

If you have overlapping teeth, you may feel self-conscious about your appearance. When the teeth are crowded to the point that they are overlapping, it can negatively impact the look and function of your smile.

At Fort Bend Dental, we offer cosmetic dentistry treatments to improve the appearance of the smile. In this blog post, you can learn more about your treatment options for overlapping teeth. Read on to learn more, and then contact our Richmond, TX and Missouri City, TX offices to schedule an appointment with us.

Problems Caused by Overlapping Teeth

Having misaligned teeth can leave you feeling self-conscious and hesitant to laugh, speak, or smile around others.

Beyond the cosmetic aspects, overlapping teeth can cause pain or discomfort while you are eating, making it difficult to enjoy certain foods. This misalignment can also lead to temporomandibular joint disorder, teeth grinding, and damage to the teeth.

Cosmetic Treatment

While overlapping teeth can cause a host of issues, we offer effective cosmetic and restorative dental care. Depending on the severity of the misalignment, our dentists may recommend porcelain veneers or dental crowns to address mildly overlapping teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

With porcelain veneers, a veneer is fixed to each overlapping tooth to improve the appearance of the smile. To create a straight and uniform appearance, we will remove some of the tooth’s natural structure to ensure that the veneers and teeth sit flush with one another.

Although veneer treatment with other dentists could involve multiple office visits, we use state-of-the-art CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) technology. This means that we can fabricate and place personalized veneers in just one appointment.

If you prefer, we also partner with an experienced dental laboratory that manufactures and delivers custom veneers in a matter of weeks.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are another option for mild cases of misalignment. During this treatment, our dentists will cap each tooth that overlaps others, improving the appearance of the tooth and allowing the patient to regain proper function. However, this treatment is only recommended for patients with mild overlapping, along with dental damage that would require the use of a crown to reinforce the tooth.

Orthodontic Care

Often, dentists will suggest orthodontic treatment as a remedy for overlapping teeth. This could mean braces, palatal expanders, or other types of appliances.

At our offices, we are preferred providers of Invisalign®, which straightens the teeth discreetly. This alternative to braces can correct overlapping teeth without the need for wires and brackets.

As a bonus, Invisalign® is removable, allowing patients to eat the foods they love and clean the teeth with ease.

Advanced Procedures

In some cases, the teeth are so severely overlapped or the jaw misaligned that orthodontic, restorative, or cosmetic care alone will not suffice. Oral surgery is used in conjunction with orthodontic, cosmetic, and restorative treatments to help patients achieve optimal results.

During an initial consultation, our experienced team will map out a treatment plan tailored to each patient’s oral needs and budget, ensuring all health and cosmetic issues are resolved.
