If given the opportunity to describe the ideal smile, most people would specify that the teeth be straight, white, and evenly spaced. Unfortunately, gapped teeth are fairly common. While gapped teeth are rarely an oral health concern, they do have a big impact on the appearance of the smile.

Cosmetic dentistry treatments address dental imperfections to enhance the beauty of the smile. At Fort Bend Dental, we offer several cosmetic dentistry treatments for gapped teeth so our Missouri City, TX patients can more confident about showing off their smiles. Here, we go over some of the most common treatments for gapped teeth.

Cosmetic Dental Bonding

Many people are interested in finding a fast, affordable solution for gapped teeth. In these cases, cosmetic dental bonding is probably the best option. During dental bonding treatment, a tooth-colored compound is used to close dental gaps and provide the appearance of straight, well-spaced teeth. This is a non-invasive procedure that provides a strong and durable solution for gapped teeth.

The results of dental bonding are achieved by applying the bonding material to the two teeth directly adjacent to the gap. This material is shaped to the teeth and used to extend the width of the teeth, therefore minimizing the amount of space between them. After the ideal shape is achieved, the bonding material is hardened with a curing light. With proper care, the results of dental bonding can last between five and ten years.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are another popular treatment option for gapped teeth. Porcelain veneers are thin shells that sit over the facial surface of the teeth to give the smile a more attractive appearance. Porcelain veneers are ideal for patients who are looking to drastically improve the appearance of the teeth.

Patients who typically opt for porcelain veneers treatment are those who have additional cosmetic flaws. Some of the blemishes that can be addressed with porcelain veneers include tooth discoloration, chips or cracks, poorly shaped teeth, and gapped teeth.

Porcelain veneers treatment can take several weeks at other dental practices, but we use CEREC® technology to fabricate the veneers here in our dental office. This allows patients the opportunity to makeover their smile in just a single day. Porcelain veneers are a strong and durable treatment option for gapped teeth, often providing patients beautiful results for ten to 15 years.

Invisalign®

It is unusual for gapped teeth to cause oral health problems, but there are times that these unusually large spaces between the teeth are caused by more serious alignment problems. If other malocclusion issues are present, orthodontic treatment may be necessary.

Invisalign® is a cosmetic solution for gapped and crooked teeth. Invisalign® straightens the teeth as effectively as braces, but it does so in a way that is more comfortable and convenient for patients. This treatment uses a system of clear, plastic aligners that subtly put pressure on the teeth so that they gradually shift into the proper position. In an average of 12 months, patients can have straighter, healthier, and more attractive teeth.
