Dental Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that can cover and support teeth following treatment for extensive damage or decay. They can also restore a dental implant to replace a lost tooth. Crowns traditionally take weeks to manufacture, but at Fort Bend Dental, we use advanced CEREC® technology to provide our patients with natural-looking custom crowns immediately following treatment. We also provide custom dental bridges, which can consist of one or more prosthetic teeth. To learn more about how you can benefit from our same-day dental crowns and bridges, contact our Missouri City, TX, practice or our second location in Richmond, TX, in Fort Bend County today.
In most cases, we use CEREC® technology to create dental crowns and bridges in a single visit. We take digital impressions of a treated tooth, which guide a special milling tool in creating your crown or bridge from a block of porcelain chosen to match the natural shade of your teeth. You can relax in our comfortable office while we create your restoration. Once your crown or bridge is complete, we can place it right away.
Before we can begin creating your crown or bridge, we must treat your teeth. Your dentist will administer a local anesthetic to maintain your comfort. Next, he will eliminate decayed or damaged tissue from the tooth. He will further refine the shape of the tooth to create a base for your crown before taking an impression.
If you are receiving a traditional bridge, your dentist will refine the teeth on either side of the gap in your smile to accommodate crowns. Next, he will take an impression of the treated teeth, as well as the gap. We will use the CEREC® system to create a bridge supported on either side by two crowns.
If you have received a dental implant, we will take an impression of the implant and surrounding teeth to create a crown or bridge that achieves a precise fit. Your restoration will be attached to the implant using either a screw or dental cement.
Benefits of Crowns and Bridges
A dental crown or bridge can restore the appearance, health, and function of your smile. We design every restoration to look absolutely realistic so that those around you will notice your beautiful smile, not your dental work.
Meanwhile, these restorations provide a wealth of practical benefits. Crowns and bridges restore balance between the upper and lower jaws to provide comfort and reduce your risk of developing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. They also improve your ability to chew and enunciate. If you have lost one or more teeth, crowns and bridges can prevent surrounding teeth from shifting out of alignment.
Crowns are often the final step in a root canal procedure. Because this treatment requires the removal of a substantial amount of tissue, crowns provide crucial support to the remaining structure.
